Leake Street TUNNEL
aka. Banksy Tunnel / Graffiti tunnel
London street art hidden under Waterloo Station
Leake Street Tunnel is a large tunnel running under Waterloo railway station & tracks. It's probably only 200m long but this hidden location is a gem for spotting London's street art and some of the leading street artists. Originally made famous by Banksy in 2008 (as the 'Cans Festival') it has grown to become a great canvas for local and international artists.
On any day of the week you can photography the street art and will often find artists working on their latest masterpieces. The spray can replaces the paintbrush and the familar smell of spray pain mingles with other interesting scents. It's a popular shortcut so there are usually lots of interesting people around the bars and local businesses. It's also poular for tourists and you will find spray paint workshops and other interesting activities, especially at the weekend. Leake Street is an ideal street photography location and goes will with the South Bank area which is just a short walk away.
Leake Street is 5 minutes walk from Waterloo Station and the South Bank and is always worth a visit if you are passing.
I have included a few images to give you idea of what to expect.
If you like the look of Leake Street then get in touch to arrange a tailored street photography guide or a custom workshop for you (and your friends).
